HUMAN REMAINS

ends today, the stage of the Sardinian "Human Remain Tour", by Vittorio Arrigoni, presenting his new book "Gaza, human remains," diary of the days of the bloody Israeli offensive "Lead Time" against the Gaza Strip has continued since 27 December 2008 to January 18, 2009 and beyond. Vittorio Arrigoni, an activist for human rights and committed more than 10 years as a volunteer around the world, was a guest on the 11th in the Faculty of Political Sciences, Cagliari, welcomed by teachers, students and external, which intervened in the debate and attended carefully to the presentation. No less important are his visits, days 12 and 13, respectively, to the Historical Archives and the school of Social Sciences in Iglesias, in which he concluded his tour. The book, distributed by Il Manifesto, is the only newspaper to report that the bloodbath that saw the people involved and the Palestinian International Solidarity Movement, to which it belongs, in the days of the bombing. Not only as a reporter, but also as a protagonist on Palestinian ambulances, Vittorio Arrigoni was able to describe in the pages of his book, despite the poor conditions he was subjected to the violence and the drama of those violations. Precious also its visual evidence and the stories he made during the days of the presentation, they could reproduce, at least in part, the atmosphere of tension and fear, grief and despair, that you live in the few square miles of the Strip. Vittorio Arrigoni also manages a blog, http://guerrillaradio.iobloggo.com/ , which proved to be the most visited in Italy in January 2009 and from which you can order "Gaza, human remains." A portion of the proceeds of the book will be donated to the Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, for two years engaged in the protection and child protection in the territories affected by the conflict.

STRASBOURG: NO TO THE CROSS SCHOOL

The Court of Stasburgo leaves finally room for interpretation. The crucifix in classrooms violates the religious freedom of both pupils and parents to educate their children according to their convictions. This is the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights, came after the action brought in 2002 by an Italian citizen originally from Finland, who complained about the presence of crucifixes in the classrooms of the institution attended by his two sons in the area of \u200b\u200bPadua. The protest therefore does not come from outside, from the dangerous environment of fundamentalist Islam linked to al Qaeda, but from an Italian mother and western, aware of his right to educate their children until they come of age and the extent of their freedom, claimed secular state and the absolute neutrality of public places. The Vatican goes up there, it becomes unbalanced, it does so through Father Federico Lombardi, Vatican spokesman, who "want to read the motivation, before deciding. " Less cautious statements instead of the political world, especially the center-right, with the Education Minister, Maria Stella Gelmini, which claims as "the presence of crucifixes in the classroom does not mean adherence to Catholicism, but it is a symbol of our tradition." A tradition which apparently should stand up not only with the Christian celebration of the applicant's personal and practice in places of worship and / or in the home, but also by the presumption that a symbol should be placed within common areas, which has the flavor of taxation majority (of the believers, this time) that an allegory of our identity. In line with the Minister also Pier Ferdinando Casini, leader of the UDC, which states that "no crucifixes in classrooms has never violated our freedom of religion, or growth and the profession of religious beliefs. That symbol - he concludes - is a civilian heritage of all Italians, because it is the sign of the Christian identity of Italy and also Europe. "The other part of the Opposition thinks otherwise, particularly in Italy of Values with Silvana Mura: "The fundamental question however relates to a school that will have more and more students will be of races and cultures. The offense against students of different religions by the Catholic Church do not think it represented both by a crucifix hanging on the wall, but rather on programs that do not pose the problem of reconciling the fundamental characteristics that the teaching of state must have with the new multicultural and multiethnic in the future will be represented by students of the Italian school. " Meanwhile, following the ruling of the Court, the Italian government must pay compensation to the woman a sum of five thousand euro (moral damage) and threatens to show immediate action. The debate thus moves from that of religious democracy and the Constitution, according to the principles of which the power of the majority must necessarily associated with a respect for minorities and freedom of worship that is at least in this case and according to the judges, fundamentally infringed.

missed opportunity

In Italy something strange happens. Something strange, contradictory, ambiguous. Talla Ndao was born 29 years ago in Dakar (Senegal) where he lives with his entire family. The economic situation, like that of many other local boys, soon led him to the decision to migrate to other shores most fertile, so that in 2002 across the Mediterranean and landed on the island by golden beaches, Sardinia. Here is room in a small town twenty-five thousand inhabitants, Iglesias, a few km from Cagliari. Initially, the resources of livelihood are very scarce, so as to force him to menial jobs, like selling a variety of merchandise during the summer to Western tourists who flock to the Sardinian sea, amid the indifference of the people on the one hand and the smiles of pity on the other. Where the product sells Talla's really everything from bracelets to statuettes of wood, from handkerchiefs to the compact disk of music burned. It will be music, a great friend of every day, one that allowed him time to undertake a personal journey towards integration, to bring the complaint of the young Senegalese. Meanwhile, the years pass, along with several works that Talla has the chance to do so more or less stable, enough to be hired as a clerk in a shop run by fellow countrymen, the Dakar Boutique, and then close his adventure with an employment contract as a domestic worker. In these seven years Talla improve his Italian, he attended the premises together with the large group of friends who had the good fortune to meet and reciprocate that love with his special way of being. Then the music, as I said, made by himself with little money and lots of passion, the music would still be crying and upset, it's the same music that is now subject to money and, for an ideal property, accuses him of being ritorcendoglisi against a criminal. This paradox Talla meets the last Monday, the police station, and fitted of all necessary documents went to the renewal of residence permits that will never happen. From there begins the drawing that will take him first to Elmas, then to Lamezia Terme (Calabria), in a CPT where is now being held pending deportation, and where "all are treated like stray dogs," to use its words. The decision entailed the reaction of the city, with the appeals on Facebook who have joined, at least for now, more than 4000 contacts, and through the expressions of solidarity on the part of most citizens. Appeals have also arrived in the living rooms of the Parliament and, specifically, to the ears of Mauro Pili, a former mayor City and currently deputy of the PDL, which expressed the will of wanting to mobilize directly to the issue so that it can have different outcomes than those provided by the "security package". Pili has in fact declared its intention to contact the Interior Minister Maroni, if necessary, so that Talla can continue to stay in Italy and do his work quietly. Beyond the real possibility of this happening and that the intention to resolve the problem by all institutions, the story highlights what in fact was obvious long before it occurs: the failure of this law. This is not the place to discuss system in which we protect the rights of copyright in Italy and on the logic that drives the music market (although, from my point of view, in this case the issues are closely related), but it would be worth pointing out that the much-acclaimed package makes no distinction between illegal immigrants and those who, however, are not illegal. This sort of uniformity to the stranger, accompanied by the idea that a criminal remains that even though over time he obtained a job and is seamlessly integrated, which makes no distinction between crimes and does not go to investigate the reasons for social are the basis of the latter, still suffers, in my opinion, a form of ignorance is typical of our country. It does not, ultimately, the emergence of real integration conditions that can lead our society to change and shape itself over time (and not vice versa) to accommodate now and in future generations of those immigrants who will make the economic and cultural wealth of our country in the years to come. I would not put other irons in the fire, talking example of the fixity of our economic system or our political parties, my intention was mainly to raise awareness to a problem that affects a dear friend and the whole society. Maybe even music.
